Our recipe ideas

Posted by mmangino on Jul 7, 2009 in Uncategorized |

While talking about this book, we came up with a few ideas for recipes that we’d like to see. This is just our first list. We’d love to hear your ideas as well. If you know of something that would make a great recipe, but don’t want to write it yourself, please post it in the comments.

Some of our ideas:

  • Searching large amounts of data
  • loading data into a paginated table view
  • Asynchronous loading of image data
  • Caching of images and HTTP requests
  • Talking with Web Services
  • Getting GPS coordinates or using the Compass
  • Communicating with a Bluetooth accessory
  • Creating custom controls
  • Storing/retrieving preferences
  • Using CoreData

What would you like to see? Just leave a comment below so we know what you, the reader, would like to see. If you have a solution to one of these problems, or one that isn’t listed, drop us a line at submissions@iphonerecipesbook.com, we’d love to hear from you! If we choose your recipe you get to brag to all your friends about how you’re a published author!

How about a couple of recipes on testing, both code-level (OCUnit, rbiphonetest) and interface-level (Shoulda + Presenter First, Bromine)?

I’d love a recipe for creating proper detail editing table views, with proper title cells where you also can hav a picture. Basically an exact copy of the contacts app would be great.
